Join this session for a preview of a new documentary, Taming the Mouth, which tells the story of the Columbia River Jetty System.
Every crossing of the Columbia River Bar is a test of skill against one of the most dangerous stretches of water in the world — a narrow two-mile gateway that has claimed nearly 2,000 vessels and remains a daily reality for the fleets that work out of it. This film follows the story of the “Graveyard of the Pacific,” from the jetty system’s construction in 1880 to its ongoing role in protecting lives and supporting regional commerce.
This session features select clips from the film, followed by a Q&A with the Director, Brett Eichenberger, about the role the jetty system and bar play in the daily lives of commercial fishermen – past, present, and future.
