Jeremiah O’Brien has lived in Morro Bay for 42 years and has been involved in the fishing industry during this entire time. Jeremiah has been a member of the Morro Bay Commercial Fishermens’ Organization for 41 years and is currently vice president. In the past he’s also served as president for ten years, he also served for several years as a director.
Jeremiah is a founding member and director of the Morro Bay Community Quota Fund that currently oversees over $2,000,000 in fish stocks that are leased to fishermen at discounted prices. The MBCQF was established to help new entrants in getting a foothold in the fishing industry.
Jeremiah has been a member of the Morro Bay Harbor Advisory Board for approximately eight years. He is also a member of the Government Affairs Committee for the Chamber of Commerce of Morro Bay.
Jeremiah is a founding member and the secretary of Morro Bay Lease Area Mutual Benefit Corporation, which was established to mitigate issues with offshore wind in the Morro Bay Lease Area.
In 2015 he was awarded the Highliner of the year in Seattle presented by National Fisherman at Fish Expo.
