Brittany’s work is driven by a deep belief that the more rights local, small-scale fishermen have, the more resilient their communities become. She began her career as a marine biologist, but quickly learned that ecological data alone wouldn’t drive the change communities needed. In a pivot to the social side of fisheries, she had the opportunity to learn from fishing communities around the world that demonstrated self-governance.
Now as the Director of People & Power at Catch Together, Brittany brings her global insight to develop powerful, community-based solutions in U.S. fisheries. For example, she currently works to anchor halibut Individual Fishing Quota into rural and Native communities in Southeast Alaska through the first Regional Community Quota Entity, the Southeast Village Fisheries Collective.
