Brad Warren is CEO of Global Ocean Health, a Seattle-based nonprofit research and education organization founded in 1994. A graduate of University of Washington, he was a writer and editor for National Fisherman (1981-1996) and Pacific Fishing (1996-2004). Warren is known for organizing multi-disciplinary initiatives to strengthen the hand of tribes and fishing communities working to protect the sea’s ability to make dinner. Commissioned by Tulalip Tribes, Warren helped Washington tribes redesign the policy that became the nation’s most ambitious price-and-invest law for tackling carbon pollution, Washington’s Climate Commitment Act. With fisheries leaders, tribal leaders, and scientists from the Woods Hole-led research consortium Exploring Ocean Iron Solutions, Warren leads the Working Group for Management of Marine Carbon Removal, which is proposing guardrails for proposed field trials in the North Pacific and for future management of this emerging class of ocean resource uses. Warren was once a deckhand on Rich Bard’s troller FV Annain Southeast Alaska.
