The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association is hosting a FREE 30-minute hands-on workshop at the National Fisherman Arena, sponsored by Port of Seattle. This workshop is designed to help fishermen understand and apply key principles of vessel stability, knowledge that can be critical for safety at sea. Participants will explore essential stability factors such as proper loading for their specific vessel and operations, roll period, center of gravity, freeboard, free surface effect, and righting arm. Using a model fishing vessel in a water tank, attendees will experiment with these concepts in real-time. Additional small-scale hands-on models will be available to reinforce these ideas in a practical, memorable way.
