Chief Petty Officer Schaeffer has been in the U.S. Coast Guard since 1996, with almost 20 years in the field of marine safety.  He currently works in the Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Program at Sector Anchorage, routinely conducting fishing vessel exams and outreach activities throughout vast areas of Western Alaska.  Chief Schaeffer is also responsible for providing both formal and on-the-job fishing vessel safety training for U.S. Coast Guard members new to Alaska.
