Ocean Strategies founder Brett Veerhusen is a seasoned organization and coalition strategist. A lifelong commercial fisherman, Brett has fished extensively in the Aleutian Islands, Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. He founded Ocean Strategies in 2013 while serving as coalition director on the Save Bristol Bay campaign. He's helped build coalitions of Fortune 100 companies to grassroots fishermen's organizations. Working with nonprofit and the private sectors alike, Ocean Strategies’ clients include United Fishermen of Alaska, Ocean Conservancy, Salmon Sisters, Businesses for Bristol Bay and Under Sixty Cod Harvesters. Previously, as the Executive Director of the Seafood Harvesters of America in Washington, D.C. Brett built the go-to fishermen’s organization in our nation’s capital. He earned a Master of Marine Affairs degree from the University of Washington and bachelor's degrees in Business and Spanish from the University of Puget Sound. Brett is a Board member for the Seafood Harvesters of America and alternate director for the North Pacific Fisheries Association.
