The Pacific Northwest has become one of America’s leading proving grounds for maritime electrification and the region’s largest ferry operator is in the middle of an electrification program that has already proven the feasibility of a major transition to hybrid-electric passenger vessels, terminal charging infrastructure, and energy storage systems.
This technical classroom session convenes the operator and the propulsion, power, and energy storage specialists behind that work for a detailed look under the hood. Speakers will address battery system design and real-world operational performance – as well as what it takes to keep them reliable over a vessel’s life – as well as charging infrastructure, utility interconnection, and peak load management.
Attendees will leave with an understanding of how to size energy storage against a fixed route and duty cycle, how to deliver high-power charging at a working berth, and how to treat propulsion, batteries, power distribution, and shore connection as one integrated system rather than four separate procurements.
