AFDF Presents: How to Develop a New Product & Symphony of Seafood Awards

Nov 19 2021

2:45 PM - 3:30 PM EDT

Main Stage

Since 1994, the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF) has hosted and organized the Alaska Symphony of Seafood, an annual competition for commercial-ready, value‐added products made with Alaska Seafood. The Symphony is an exciting platform that encourages companies to invest in product development, helps them promote those new products and competitively positions Alaska Seafood in national and global markets. Product development is critically important to the entire Alaska seafood industry and the fishing communities that depend on it. Innovative new products position the industry to remain competitive and relevant to consumers. COVID-19 demonstrated how important it is to respond to shifting consumer demands.

The increase of quality at the point of harvest improves quality all the way throughout the supply chain. This allows more value-added potential, because the quality can support additional processing and diversification of products. The Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA) and AFDF are the perfect partners to work together to support and promote the development of more value-added products coming out of Bristol Bay.

AFDF is proud to announce the 2021-22 1st Place Winners of the Alaska Symphony of Seafood, exciting changes to the event and collaboration with our major sponsor, BBRSDA. The 2021-22 Symphony will feature Salmon and Whitefish product categories in addition to Retail, Food Service and Beyond the Plate. In addition, special awards categories will include: Grand Prize, Seattle People’s Choice, Juneau People’s Choice and the Bristol Bay Choice. These new categories will allow for more opportunities for product awards, promotion and recognition, including increased exposure for products out of Bristol Bay.

For companies considering development of a new product, the panel will also walk through the considerations and steps required and offer resources to help support product development efforts.

Join our panel of seafood industry experts to learn more about:

• The Symphony Initiative, 2021-22 Symphony events, and the 1st place winners

• BBRSDA’s brand, Wild Taste, Amazing Place, and collaboration with Bristol Bay fishermen
