Project Gabe Workshop

Working Through the Pain: Opioid Awareness & Naloxone Training for Commercial Fishermen

Commercial fishing is demanding work, and when stress goes unchecked and pain goes unmanaged, the risk of opioid misuse rises with it. This 30-minute hands-on session, led with Project Gabe and AMSEA, covers natural approaches to chronic pain, how to recognize and respond to an overdose, the facts about fentanyl, and full Naloxone training. Because fishermen are the first responders at sea, the class fulfills the requirements for AMSEA certification in overdose education and Naloxone distribution. Mannequins are on hand to practice CPR and Naloxone technique.

You’ll walk away with:

  • AMSEA certification in overdose education and Naloxone training, qualifying you as a distributor
  • A free opioid overdose dry bag with Naloxone, PPE, and resources (for individuals and vessel captains who complete the class)
  • Fishermen-specific pamphlets on behavioral health, family support, pain management, and injury prevention
