Hal Hockema is a licensed Professional Engineer with 40 years’ experience in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering and Shipyard Production Planning. He is founder of Hockema Whalen Myers Associates (22 years), the Pacific Northwest naval architecture firm. He was raised in Newport, Oregon and worked summer jobs on the docks and on commercial fishing vessels during his high school and college years. Hal is a member of the Coast Guard Commercial Fishing Safety Advisory Committee (CFSAC).
His experience in project management includes design and planning of new construction, conversion/repair and regulatory implementation for: Trawlers, crabbers, tuna seiners, longliners, salmon seiners, sardine seiners, fish tenders, dredges, deck cargo barges, ATB barges, derrick barges, navy service craft, offshore supply vessels, ocean tugs, harbor tugs, seismic survey vessels, landing craft and small overnight cruise vessels.
Mr. Hockema’s business focus revolves around issues of vessel safety, efficiency, durability and aesthetics, as well as implementing the owner’s and builder’s specific needs for each project. Innovation and marine safety go hand in hand.
