Biography

George is a marine fisheries consultant, currently working with the Fisheries Survival Fund on scallop management, Southeast region of NMFS on electronic reporting in the for-hire fleet, the State of New York on revision to commercial licensing, and data modernization nationwide.  Previously, he served as the NOAA Fisheries Electronic Technologies Senior Advisor and consulting on marine fisheries and ocean planning projects.  He was Maine Commissioner of Marine Resources from 1998 through 2010.  He served as the Director of the Interstate Fishery Management Program for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission from 1995-1998 He worked at the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (now the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies) as their legislative counsel for two years. His first job in marine fisheries was as a fishery management specialist for the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.  He as a BS wildlife biology from the University of Massachusetts and a MS in wildlife from the University of Minnesota.
