A lifelong Alaskan from Kodiak, Garrett plays a significant role in a wide variety of McDowell Group’s fisheries and maritime projects, particularly seafood industry economic impact and business development studies. He is a key member for the Seafood Market Information Service, conducted on behalf of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. During his five years with McDowell Group, Garrett has been project manager or lead analyst on numerous studies including the Modernization of the North Pacific Fishing Fleet, The Economic Impact of the Seafood Industry on the Kodiak Island Borough, and Trends and Opportunities in the Alaska Maritime Industrial Support Sector. Garrett was a contributing author of the Wholesale Market Profiles for Alaska Groundfish and Crab Fisheries, prepared for NOAA Fisheries. He has contributed to a variety of other projects for clients such as Alaska Salmon Alliance, Valdez Fisheries Development Association, Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association, Port of Nome, Port of Seattle, and Port of Valdez. Garrett holds a Masters in Natural Resources and Applied Economics from University of Alaska Fairbanks. He has fished commercially for salmon, halibut, cod, shrimp, and crab in the Bering Sea, Kodiak, Prince William Sound, and Southeast. He enjoys sharing his passion for outdoor recreation with his wife and two children.
