Bristol Bay Setnetter - Strength of The Tides

Biography

Elma Burnham grew up spending time on both coasts, and first worked an Alaska salmon season in 2010, following her parents who setnet on Cook Inlet and worked for Joint Venture Fisheries in the 1980s. After crewing and running skiffs for several summers, Elma began to tap into the larger salmon industry, supporting direct marketing efforts and focusing on women in the industry. Elma has a degree in French, Education, and African American Studies from Middlebury College and has spent her winters in various ways–from teaching English in the French Caribbean to working at a bakery in Bellingham, WA.
