Throw Me a Rope

Fall overboard events are often unwitnessed and when there are witnesses, rescue attempts fail more often than not. This workshop will start by showing NIOSH’s series of “Fishing Safety Success Stories” video of a Dungeness crab fishermen who survived a fall overboard. Then, using real survival equipment, presenters and audience members will discuss practical strategies for preventing these events, alerting crews when a fall occurs, surviving in the water, methods for retrieving and treating the crewmember in the water, and the maintenance of PFDs and MOB safety equipment.
