Alaska Symphony of Seafood Awards
Since 1994, the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation has conducted the Alaska Symphony of Seafood celebrating creative new products made from Alaska seafood. The goal of this event is to increase the value of Alaska’s seafood by promoting new products which diversify markets, utilize more of the resource and reduce fish waste. The development of new products is a risky investment. However, it is critically important to the future competitiveness of Alaska’s seafood industry and important for producing the most value from this important resource. The success of new products not only affects seafood businesses throughout the supply chain, but also hundreds of communities and support sector businesses.
The 26th annual Alaska Symphony of Seafood begins with the private judging of qualified entries in Seattle on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. All products entered into the competition will be prepared and displayed by professional culinary staff. A first, second, and third place winner will be selected from each of the following categories: Retail, Foodservice, Beyond the Plate and Beyond the Egg. Following the judging, an Open House will be held for all entrants, seafood industry invitees, sponsors, the press and the judges. The next event will be an awards ceremony in Juneau in mid-February, 2019, allowing the display and sampling of products by the Alaska Legislature and other special guests. Again this year, the winners in each category will also be entered into the Seafood Expo North America’s competition for new products, called the Seafood Excellence Award.
